Google has unveiled a suite of new generative AI features for its mapping and geospatial applications, specifically tailored for enterprise users. These innovative capabilities, introduced at Cloud Next in Las Vegas this week, integrate generative AI into Google’s core mapping platform, significantly enhancing its visual and data analytics prowess.
Among the new offerings is Maps Imagery Grounding, which empowers enterprise clients to leverage generative AI for crafting realistic scenes within Google Street View. This allows for precise visualization of projects, whether it's a prospective movie set or a planned construction site. Users simply input a prompt into the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, and the system generates the scene directly within Street View, provided the necessary settings are enabled within Google Maps Imagery.
“In seconds, you can storyboard your creative vision with an accurate image—and you can even use Veo to animate the scene,” the company stated in its official press release.
The tech giant is also expanding the methods by which users can analyze data derived from satellite imagery within Google Earth. A new feature named Aerial and Satellite Insights enables comprehensive analysis of imagery stored in Google Cloud’s BigQuery, the company’s cloud-based data warehousing and analytics platform. Google asserts that this functionality dramatically compresses tasks that previously took "weeks of work" into mere minutes of effort.
Furthermore, Google is launching two new Earth AI Imagery models, sophisticated AI systems designed to streamline geospatial analysis. These models have been meticulously trained to identify "specific objects in imagery–like bridges, roads, and power lines." Historically, companies had to dedicate months to building and training their own AI systems for such tasks. The introduction of these new models signifies that “businesses no longer need to spend months training and building AI from scratch when developing their own products.”
These announcements underscore Google’s broader strategic focus on advancing enterprise geospatial AI. Its existing Earth AI platform is already being utilized by prominent partners such as Airbus and Boston Children’s Hospital for a wide array of applications, ranging from environmental monitoring to critical disaster response efforts.
“These AI updates unlock entirely new possibilities for businesses, data analysts, and urban planners,” the company concluded in its release.
