Adobe has announced that its AI assistant for Photoshop is now accessible to users in a beta phase across both web and mobile applications. Concurrently, the company is bolstering Firefly, its dedicated tool for media generation and editing, with an array of new AI-powered image editing functionalities.

The creative software giant initially unveiled the AI assistant for Photoshop during its MAX event in October. This feature, currently rolling out to users, offers intuitive capabilities such as removing unwanted objects or individuals from images, altering colors, or adjusting lighting through simple prompts. Users can also employ natural language commands to instruct the AI assistant to apply effects like a soft glow, crop to specific dimensions, enhance shadows, or completely transform backgrounds to achieve diverse visual aesthetics.

Adobe has specified that paid Photoshop subscribers will benefit from unlimited generations with the AI assistant until April 9, while free users will be granted an initial allocation of 20 generations.

Furthermore, the company is introducing a new feature called "AI Markup" in public beta. This allows individuals to draw markers directly on the screen and utilize the AI assistant to transform those designated objects. For example, one could draw a flower into existence or mark an object for removal to modify the background context.

In addition, Adobe is enhancing its Firefly media creation tool with advanced image editing capabilities. Firefly is now integrating Generative Fill, a feature that has been a staple in Photoshop for several years, enabling users to seamlessly replace or add objects and adjust backgrounds accordingly.

Firefly is also gaining a suite of generative features, including "Generative Remove" for precise object deletion, "Generative Expand" for AI-powered image size enlargement, and "Generative Upscale" for improved resolution. Complementing these, a convenient one-click background removal tool is also being introduced.

In a strategic move announced in February, Adobe made unlimited generations available to Firefly subscribers, aiming to foster greater engagement and usage. Over time, the platform has progressively integrated over 25 third-party video and image generation models, featuring notable contributions such as Google’s Nano Banana 2, OpenAI’s Image Generation, Runway’s Gen-4.5, and Black Forest Labs’ Flux.2 Pro.
