Microsoft 365 Premium combines Copilot and Office for $19.99

Microsoft is launching Microsoft 365 Premium, a single subscription that pairs Office with advanced Copilot features for $19.99 a month, matching the price of ChatGPT Plus. The plan merges Copilot Pro with Microsoft 365 Family benefits, offering desktop apps for up to six people, 1TB of OneDrive storage per person, and Microsoft’s highest AI usage limits. Premium includes GPT-4 image generation and voice, plus features such as Copilot Podcasts, Deep Research, Vision, and Actions. Microsoft says the offer targets solopreneurs and busy professionals who want powerful AI inside familiar Office apps.

 

The company is also bringing its Researcher and Analyst reasoning agents to Word, PowerPoint, and Excel soon. Existing Personal and Family subscribers will gain GPT-4o image and voice capabilities with higher limits than the free Copilot tier, and Copilot Chat—previously limited to business customers—is expanding to all consumer subscriptions.

 

A notable change is that consumers can now “bring Copilot to work.” If you have a Premium, Family, or Personal account, signing into your work copy of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, or Outlook with your personal Microsoft account will light up Copilot features in those desktop apps on Windows, Mac, and iPad. Microsoft says enterprise security, compliance, and data protection remain in place so corporate data stays with work accounts. IT administrators can enable or disable this sign-in capability. The feature is not available on the web, and only the main account holder on Family or Premium can unlock AI features for work, a limitation Microsoft says it may revisit.

 

Microsoft positions the plan directly against ChatGPT Plus, arguing that its bundle pairs a modern AI assistant with fully integrated Office apps and generous storage. Meanwhile, Copilot Pro will stop being sold as a standalone add-on. Current Copilot Pro subscribers won’t be automatically moved to Premium, and Microsoft has not set a date for when Copilot Pro will be discontinued.
