After a brief delay, Meta started rolling out new AI features for its Ray-Ban Meta AR glasses in France, Italy, and Spain. This update allows users in these countries to interact with Meta’s AI assistant, Meta AI, by simply using their voice.
The assistant can answer general questions, such as “What are some good gift ideas for my kids aged 6 and 8?”
In addition, Meta AI now supports multiple languages, including French, Italian, Spanish, and English, making it more accessible to European users.
Meta’s blog post expressed excitement about bringing the AI assistant to parts of the EU and noted its ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with Europe’s complex regulations. The company also mentioned plans to expand the service to more European countries soon.
However, the following updates for European users only include a few of the multimodal features that are available in other countries, such as the U.S., Canada, and Australia.
In those regions, the users of Ray-Ban Meta glasses can use the AI assistant to get information about what they are viewing through the glasses camera.
For example, users can ask the AI, “Tell me more about this landmark.” Meta has stated that they are working to bring multimodal capabilities to more European countries in the future.
The company also launched AI features for the Ray-Ban Meta glasses in the UK and other countries. Despite these updates, Meta has yet to release an update regarding its data training practices across the rest of the European Union.
The ongoing changes reflect the company’s efforts to navigate Europe’s regulatory environment while introducing innovative features to its products.
