GM Expands AI Partnership with Nvidia for Cars and Factories
GM teams up with Nvidia to integrate AI into factories, robotics, and self-driving cars, enhancing automation and production efficiency.

Originally reported bytechcrunch
General Motors is strengthening its collaboration with Nvidia to bring AI-driven innovation across its operations, from factory automation to self-driving technology. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announced the partnership during his keynote at the GTC conference in San Jose, emphasizing AI’s growing role in automotive advancements. According to Huang, GM will integrate AI into manufacturing, enterprise operations, and vehicles, leveraging Nvidia’s advanced computing infrastructure.
Under this deal, Nvidia will provide AI-powered GPUs to help GM develop its own AI models. GM will use Nvidia’s Omniverse with Cosmos to create digital twins of its factories, allowing the automaker to simulate production processes before real-world implementation. This will enhance manufacturing efficiency, train robotic platforms for tasks like material handling and precision welding, and improve overall factory operations.
Beyond manufacturing, GM plans to incorporate Nvidia’s Drive AGX platform into its future vehicles to enhance driver-assistance systems and in-cabin safety features. This follows GM’s recent decision to shift focus from its commercial robotaxi business to refining its hands-off driver-assistance system, Super Cruise. The company is also integrating its self-driving subsidiary, Cruise, into its broader autonomous vehicle strategy.
Nvidia has long been a key player in the automotive AI space, supplying GPUs and self-driving technology to companies like Tesla, Waymo, and Toyota. Its DriveOS operating system powers real-time AI processing and advanced driver assistance features in next-gen vehicles.
While GM has previously used Nvidia’s GPUs for AI training and validation, this expanded partnership broadens the scope to include factory automation and production optimization. Although financial details were not disclosed, the collaboration highlights GM’s commitment to using AI for innovation across its operations. By leveraging Nvidia’s AI expertise, GM aims to enhance vehicle technology, streamline manufacturing, and drive advancements in autonomous mobility.
