A voice AI startup, ElevenLabs, has introduced GenFM, which is a groundbreaking feature designed to create AI-driven multispeaker podcasts. The feature is accessible through the ElevenLabs Reader iOS app and supports 32 languages, including English, Hindi, Chinese, Spanish, and French.
Users can upload a YouTube video, text, or document to generate a podcast. The app automatically selects two voices from multiple options to narrate the content.
This innovative tool introduces natural human-like elements, such as “ums” and “thoughtful pauses,” to make AI podcasts feel more conversational and authentic, striking a balance between utility and the flow of human speech.
The development team emphasized their goal of achieving a smooth, insightful conversation style similar to popular long-form podcasts while making audio narratives accessible across languages and voices.
Future updates regarding ElevenLabs will enhance customization options and allow the integration of multiple sources to create generative AI podcasts. This aligns with ElevenLabs’ vision to elevate audio storytelling while maintaining a human touch in AI-generated outputs.
The announcement of this feature directly challenges Google’s NotebookLM, which launched similar features in September. These features allow users to create AI-generated conversations from their content sources. Google followed up with additional customization options in October.
This new feature not only highlights the growing interest in generative AI tools for audio content but also sets a benchmark for accessible, natural-sounding AI podcasts across multiple languages and contexts.
