Samsung Electronics has signed a $16.5 billion agreement to manufacture artificial intelligence chips for Tesla, marking a major boost for the company’s struggling semiconductor foundry business. The deal, valued at 22.8 trillion won, will run through 2033 and focus on producing Tesla’s next-generation AI6 chips.
Production will take place at Samsung’s upcoming plant in Taylor, Texas, which has been developed to expand the company’s advanced chipmaking capacity in the United States. Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed the partnership on X, highlighting the chips’ role in powering future Tesla AI systems.
This collaboration strengthens Samsung’s position in the global semiconductor industry, where it has faced challenges competing with leaders like Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC).
