Perplexity, an AI startup, is reportedly in talks to integrate its artificial intelligence technology with Samsung and Motorola smartphones. According to Bloomberg News, the company is negotiating with Samsung to add its AI assistants to the brand’s devices. These discussions are in the early stages, while a similar collaboration with Motorola is set to be officially announced later this month. Motorola plans to highlight this partnership during a product event next week in New York City.
The potential deal with Samsung could involve making Perplexity the default AI assistant on Samsung devices or preloading its Android app. Samsung, the global leader in the smartphone market, could also feature Perplexity’s assistant in its app store, further expanding its reach. However, such a partnership could face challenges due to Samsung’s long-standing ties with Google, which supplies the default search engine and a significant portion of its AI capabilities.
Despite these complexities, Samsung has shown interest in Perplexity, investing in the startup last year and reportedly planning another investment in the near future. This development follows a previous announcement by T-Mobile’s parent company, Deutsche Telekom, which revealed that it was working with Perplexity to develop an “AI Phone.” This device would act as a virtual butler, using Perplexity’s assistant to handle tasks through voice commands, much like Siri on iPhones or Google’s Gemini on Pixel devices.
In other news, the retail industry continues to embrace generative AI (GenAI), with over 90% of large retailers already incorporating the technology into their transaction data workflows. As AI adoption spreads, retailers face the decision to either invest in data-driven solutions or risk falling behind more agile competitors.
