OpenAI has started rolling out its latest AI model, GPT-4.5, to ChatGPT Plus users. The update, which was first made available to Pro subscribers paying $200 per month, will take around one to three days to reach all eligible users. OpenAI has also mentioned that rate limits may change based on demand. GPT-4.5 is the company’s most advanced model, trained on a larger dataset and with more computing power than any previous version. However, it still falls behind some AI reasoning models developed by DeepSeek, Anthropic, and even OpenAI itself in certain benchmarks.
Despite its improvements, GPT-4.5 is costly to operate. OpenAI charges $75 per million tokens for input and $150 per million tokens for output, significantly higher than the costs associated with its GPT-4o model. Due to these high operational expenses, the company is still deciding whether to keep offering GPT-4.5 through its API in the long run. OpenAI claims the model has enhanced world knowledge, improved emotional intelligence, and a lower tendency to generate false information.
Another key feature of GPT-4.5 is its persuasive abilities. OpenAI’s internal tests show that the model excels in rhetorical skills, even successfully convincing another AI to provide money and share a secret code word. While the rollout is ongoing, OpenAI aims to gather user feedback and adjust access limits accordingly. This latest development reinforces OpenAI’s ongoing push to refine AI capabilities while balancing performance and cost.
