OpenAI has announced that its Deep Research tool, which helps users generate detailed research reports through web browsing, is now available to all paying ChatGPT users. Previously, this feature was limited to ChatGPT Pro subscribers, but now, users of ChatGPT Plus, Team, Enterprise, and Edu plans can access it with 10 deep research queries per month. Pro users, who pay $200 per month, will now receive 120 queries, an increase from the previous 100.
The expansion comes amid increasing competition among AI companies offering similar research tools. OpenAI, Google, and Perplexity are all working to make their deep research products more widely accessible. Google recently launched its own deep research agent for all Gemini Advanced users, highlighting the race among tech giants to dominate this space. These tools generate long-form research reports, aiming to provide users with comprehensive insights on various topics.
AI companies see these advanced research tools as a way to justify the high cost of their premium AI subscriptions. By offering detailed and structured responses, they hope users will recognize the value in their paid plans. However, OpenAI acknowledges that further testing is needed to explore how these tools can be refined and ensure they are used effectively without influencing users’ decisions in unintended ways.
As competition grows, companies are expected to continue improving their research tools, offering users better accuracy and in-depth analysis. OpenAI’s move to extend Deep Research access reflects its efforts to attract more users to its paid tiers while maintaining an edge in the rapidly evolving AI industry.
