OpenAI has released GPT-5, its new flagship model, and made it available to everyone in ChatGPT. The company says GPT-5 is smarter, faster, and more useful across tasks such as coding, writing, research, math, science, finance, and law. ChatGPT is designed to think more deeply when needed and ask helpful follow-up questions, aiming to deliver a better response each time. For everyday use, ChatGPT now offers more ways to personalize the experience, including selectable personalities and chat colors. Voice has been improved to follow instructions and adapt its speaking style, and a new Study mode provides step-by-step learning support. Users can connect Gmail and Google Calendar to get more relevant answers. OpenAI also emphasizes safer, more accurate guidance, including clearer health information. For developers, GPT-5 focuses on high-quality code generation and agentic workflows. It can produce front-end interfaces with minimal prompting, handle longer chains of tool calls, and offer better steerability and personality control. The API adds “minimal” reasoning for efficient tasks and a “verbosity” parameter to manage output length.  Three model tiers are available: GPT-5, GPT-5 mini, and GPT-5 nano, each supporting text and vision with a 400K-token context window and up to 128K output tokens. Pricing for GPT-5 is $1.25 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens; GPT-5 mini is $0.25 and $2.00; GPT-5 nano is $0.05 and $0.40. For organizations, OpenAI positions GPT-5 as a trusted expert for writing, analysis, coding, and problem-solving. It works with company files and popular connectors like Google Drive and SharePoint while respecting existing permissions. GPT-5 is available in ChatGPT Team today, and it will arrive for ChatGPT Enterprise and ChatGPT Edu on August 14. The goal is to let every employee achieve expert-level results without switching models. OpenAI highlights early examples of people using GPT-5 for creative projects, coding, and research, and points to safety and accuracy gains. The company links to research materials and platform updates and invites users to try GPT-5 in ChatGPT or start building with the API.
