OpenAI has officially launched the ChatGPT App Store, marking a major step toward turning ChatGPT into a single platform that connects users with a wide range of services. The new App Directory allows users to browse and use tools that work directly inside the ChatGPT interface, while developers can now build interactive apps using OpenAI’s newly opened software development kit.

The company has been gradually expanding ChatGPT’s role beyond a chatbot, and this move strengthens that vision. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman previously said the company planned to add features expected from a strong platform over time, and the launch of an app store brings ChatGPT closer to becoming an all-in-one digital hub.

Alongside the App Directory, OpenAI has rebranded its existing connectors as apps. Tools that previously helped users access data from services like Google Drive or Dropbox are now grouped under new app categories. File-based connectors are now labeled as apps with file search, research-focused connectors are called apps with deep research, and synced connectors are now apps with sync. These apps may also use saved Memory data if the feature is enabled. OpenAI noted that data from Free, Plus, Go, and Pro users could be used to train its models if users have allowed model improvement.

The App Store also includes more interactive third-party apps. Services such as Spotify, which launched earlier, are now available in additional regions, including the UK, Switzerland, and much of the European Union. New apps include Apple Music, which helps users discover songs, create playlists, and manage music libraries within ChatGPT, and DoorDash, which turns recipe ideas and meal plans into a ready-to-order shopping cart.

Despite the expansion, OpenAI has not clearly explained how the App Store will generate revenue. The company said it is exploring future monetization options, including digital goods, but shared no specific plans. For now, the focus appears to be on growing the platform, encouraging developer participation, and increasing user engagement as ChatGPT evolves into a central gateway for everyday digital services.
