Nvidia has appointed longtime Google executive Alison Wagonfeld as its first chief marketing officer, marking a shift in how the fast-growing chipmaker approaches marketing as its influence in artificial intelligence continues to expand. Wagonfeld will report directly to chief executive Jensen Huang and will begin her role in February, according to people familiar with the matter.

Wagonfeld joins from Google, where she spent nearly a decade and most recently led marketing for the company’s cloud computing business. She confirmed the move in a LinkedIn post. At Nvidia, she will take over responsibilities that were previously spread across several leaders, with the entire marketing and communications organization reporting to her once she starts.

The hire reflects how Nvidia’s rapid growth has changed the company’s priorities. Over the past three years, Nvidia has become a central supplier of chips used to power advanced AI systems, driving a sharp rise in revenue and public attention. Since the release of OpenAI’s ChatGPT in 2022, demand for AI computing has surged, placing Nvidia at the center of the industry’s expansion.

As a result, Nvidia’s chief executive Jensen Huang has become one of the most visible figures of the global AI boom. The company’s growing scale and influence have increased the need for a more unified and strategic marketing approach, something Wagonfeld is expected to help deliver.

Earlier this week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Huang spoke about Nvidia’s next generation of AI server systems, unveiling details earlier than usual. He said intense demand across the industry is speeding up development cycles and competition, telling the audience that the race to reach the next stage of AI innovation is accelerating.

Nvidia’s financial performance underscores that momentum. In its most recent quarter, the company reported record revenue of $57 billion, a 62 percent increase from a year earlier and above what analysts had expected. That growth has reinforced Nvidia’s position as the leading supplier of AI chips and heightened the importance of how it presents its technology, vision, and leadership to customers, partners, and governments around the world.
