Lovable, a Swedish AI coding startup, has become Europe’s fastest-growing unicorn, reaching $100 million in annual recurring revenue in just eight months and securing a $200 million Series A at a $1.8 billion valuation. At TechBBQ in Copenhagen, co-founder and CEO Anton Osika shared his vision of making Lovable the go-to platform for building software products, even for those with no coding experience. The company, which already serves over 2.3 million users, including 180,000 paying subscribers, aims to help founders handle all aspects of product development, from payments to company setup. In June, Lovable introduced an AI agent to handle debugging, file management, web searches, and image generation. Osika emphasized that while AI-generated code can be fragile, all code, whether human or machine-made, should be reviewed before release. He believes Lovable has an edge over providers like Anthropic and OpenAI by integrating multiple foundation models, giving users more flexibility and speed without the burden of infrastructure. Despite the rise of competition and comparisons to peers like Figma, which recently went public at a $19.3 billion valuation, Osika insists Lovable’s focus remains on user needs. The company counts major clients such as Klarna, HubSpot, and Photoroom, and has backing from prominent investors including Greens Ventures, Hummingbird Ventures, 20VC, and Revolut CEO Nik Storonsky. Osika is committed to keeping Lovable rooted in Europe, viewing its success as a boost to the Nordic and broader European startup scene. Investors argue that Lovable’s rise not only creates jobs but also inspires new levels of ambition across the continent. Beyond building his own company, Osika has begun investing in other European startups, such as Denmark’s Propane.ai, reinforcing his belief in the region’s talent. For Osika, Lovable’s mission is simple: provide an easy, secure, and trustworthy platform for building products. As he put it, “If we continue to do that, we’re going to build more trust with our customers than anyone else.” At just over a year old, Lovable is already reshaping how Europe competes in the global AI landscape.
