Grammarly Acquires Superhuman to Build AI Productivity Platform

Grammarly has announced plans to acquire Superhuman, a well-known email app, as part of its vision to become a comprehensive AI productivity platform. The company highlighted that email is already the top way professionals use Grammarly, with its AI tools helping improve over 50 million emails each week across more than 20 email services. By owning Superhuman, Grammarly aims to showcase its capabilities in a dedicated email product.

Beyond email, Grammarly has much larger ambitions. The company intends to evolve into a multi-product platform offering hundreds of intelligent, task-focused AI agents. These agents could help users with various professional tasks, like drafting customer memos with support from specialized agents in communication, sales, marketing, and support, all working together. Grammarly believes email is the perfect starting point for these tools, as many professionals spend over three hours a day managing their inboxes.

This acquisition follows Grammarly’s purchase of Coda, a productivity startup, late last year. After that deal, Coda’s co-founder and CEO, Shishir Mehrotra, took over as CEO of the combined company. With Superhuman now in the fold, Grammarly hopes to strengthen its position in the growing market for AI-driven productivity software.

However, the company faces strong competition from tech giants like OpenAI and Google, which are also investing heavily in building smart AI assistants to reshape how people work. Whether Grammarly can keep up with these larger rivals and deliver on its vision of seamless, multi-agent productivity remains to be seen.
