Google launched the Pixel 10 series at its Made by Google event, pushing AI-forward phones to market weeks before Apple’s expected iPhone 17 reveal. Building on last year’s Pixel 9, which added Gemini Live voice chat, image tools, call notes, and searchable screenshots, the new lineup goes further. Google says Gemini Live conversations are five times longer than text and is adding an audio model that reads your tone and adjusts replies.  The phones introduce Visual Overlays, Magic Cue, Camera Coach, Voice Translate for calls, a “Take a Message” option in the Phone app, and Pixel Journal. Visual Overlays let Gemini look through the camera and highlight what matters on screen, like parking rules on street signs.  Magic Cue makes the phone proactive across Gmail, Calendar, Messages, and Screenshots, surfacing context-aware suggestions where you already are and in Daily Hub in Discover. Suggestions appear with a rainbow outline and are tappable. At launch, it helps with tasks such as settling a tab, adding events, and showing trip forecasts, with more options and user controls promised. The upgrades ride on Google’s Tensor G5 chip, its custom silicon tuned for AI and the first to run the latest Gemini Nano on-device. Photography gets a big lift. Camera Coach, launching in preview, suggests framing and composition, and can inspire scenes to try. Auto Best Take recognizes group shots and analyzes up to 150 frames to pick or blend the best faces. With the AI-powered Ask Photos tool, you can fix lighting, reframe, or remove objects by voice or text.  Pro models add Pro Res Zoom, using AI to reach 30x–60x for architecture, landscapes and wildlife. Pixel 10 phones also adopt the C2PA content authenticity standard to label image origin and edits. Voice Translate performs near–real–time, on-device call translation while preserving each speaker’s voice, working across 11 languages including English, Spanish, German, Japanese, French, Hindi, Italian, Portuguese, Swedish, Russian and Indonesian.  “Take a Message” provides live transcripts for missed or declined calls and suggests next steps, while Pixel Journal uses prompts to help you reflect and track goals. Smaller updates add writing aids in Gboard, new Pixel Studio screenshot tools and Notebook LM links for Recorder and screenshots. Apple is pursuing similar in-app actions with Siri, but its broader AI upgrade is not expected until 2026, giving Google an early lead.
