Google has expanded its NotebookLM platform with a new AI-powered Video Overviews feature that transforms saved content into narrated slideshows. The feature, rolling out in English first with more languages to follow, offers users a visual way to absorb information. It builds on the existing Audio Overviews by adding visuals like images, diagrams, quotes, and data from user documents, making complex topics easier to explain and understand.
According to Google, the new feature is particularly effective for presenting data, demonstrating processes, and clarifying abstract concepts. Users can control playback with options to skip forward or back by 10 seconds and adjust playback speed, making the experience more interactive and tailored to individual learning preferences. Google plans to introduce additional formats to enhance learning flexibility in the future.
Alongside Video Overviews, Google is updating the NotebookLM Studio tab, the space where users generate Audio Overviews, Video Overviews, study guides, and reports. A major improvement allows users to create and store multiple outputs of the same type within one notebook, streamlining organization and making it easier to manage various projects.
The Studio tab itself is also being visually refreshed, featuring four clear tiles for quickly creating Audio Overviews, Video Overviews, Mind Maps, and Reports. These updates are set to roll out to all users over the coming weeks, giving NotebookLM a cleaner look and more robust functionality.
With these enhancements, Google aims to make learning from personal notes more dynamic and accessible, offering users multiple ways to engage with and understand their stored information.
