Google has updated its Gemini AI chatbot, allowing iPhone users to access it directly from the lock screen. This update, first reported by 9to5Google, introduces a Gemini widget that lets users launch Gemini Live, Google’s real-time voice AI feature, without unlocking their device.
As Apple’s AI-powered Siri upgrade faces delays, Google and other competitors are stepping in to provide iPhone users with advanced AI assistants. ChatGPT’s iOS app also offers a similar function, enabling users to launch OpenAI’s Advanced Voice Mode from the lock screen.
In addition to Gemini Live, the updated app includes new lock screen widgets for capturing and uploading images, setting reminders, adding calendar events, and starting text-based chats with Gemini. These enhancements aim to improve accessibility and user experience, making AI interactions more seamless on mobile devices.
Google has also announced upcoming updates for Gemini on Android. Later in March, Android users will be able to ask Gemini AI questions about videos and on-screen content and receive real-time responses. These features, originally showcased under Google DeepMind’s Project Astra, are gradually being integrated into the Gemini app. However, they will initially be available only to subscribers of Google’s $20-per-month Gemini Advanced plan.
With these updates, Google continues to enhance its AI offerings, making them more intuitive and accessible across devices. As AI-driven assistants become more integrated into everyday tasks, users can expect smoother, more responsive interactions powered by advanced language models.
