Google is rolling out new updates for Gmail users on Android and iOS, bringing design improvements and expanded AI features. For Android tablet and foldable device owners, Gmail now includes a flexible interface that lets users drag a divider to resize the list and conversation panes while in landscape mode. Users can even slide the divider fully to one side to switch to a single-pane view if they prefer. This feature is available for both Workspace and personal account holders and is starting to roll out now.
Alongside this, Gmail for iOS is receiving a visual refresh to match the Android and updated web versions. The iOS update introduces Google’s Material Design 3, featuring pill-shaped buttons at the bottom and a rounded search bar at the top of the app. This redesign aims to create a more unified experience across platforms. The Gmail app update is currently being released to all iOS users with Workspace and personal accounts. Furthermore, Google Calendar on iOS will now support creating and editing birthday events, a feature already available to Android users.
In addition to design changes, Google is enhancing Gmail’s AI capabilities. Gemini, Google’s AI image generator, is being added to the Gmail app sidebar for Workspace users on both Android and iOS. Similar to the web-based experience, users can now generate images within the Gmail mobile app, offering options to save them, copy them, or insert them directly into their email drafts. These updates aim to make Gmail more flexible, visually consistent across devices, and better integrated with Google’s growing suite of AI tools.
