Microsoft cloud expansion drives Indonesia’s long-term AI strategy
OpenAI has made ChatGPT’s voice feature easier to use by integrating it directly into the main chat window. Instead of switching to a separate voice mode, users can now talk to the chatbot and see its responses at the same time. This update lets conversations flow more smoothly, allowing spoken answers to appear on-screen alongside shared images or other visuals.
Previously, activating voice mode sent users to a different screen with an animated blue circle, a mute button, and an option for live video recording. While using that mode, only audio responses were available, so missing something the chatbot said meant leaving the screen to check the text version. The new design removes this frustration by showing answers as they are spoken, keeping everything in one place.
With the updated interface, users can easily switch between speaking and typing during the same conversation. They can also review earlier messages and follow visual content, such as images or maps, in real time while talking. Although voice and text now work together more naturally, users still need to tap “end” when they want to stop the voice interaction and return fully to typing.
The redesigned voice experience is now the default and is rolling out across ChatGPT’s web and mobile apps. For those who liked the older setup, OpenAI still offers the option to use the original separate voice mode. In the Settings menu under “Voice Mode,” users can turn on “Separate mode” to restore the previous interface.
This update aims to make voice conversations feel more intuitive, giving people a smoother way to interact with ChatGPT by combining spoken and visual responses within one unified chat space.
