Apple tests Siri that runs apps with your voice

Apple is testing a version of Siri that can perform actions inside other apps using only voice, according to Bloomberg. This follows Apple’s 2024 demo of a more intelligent Siri that could talk to different apps to pull information, which has not yet shipped.  The new work centers on an updated App Intents system that lets developers expose specific tasks for Siri to trigger through search, Shortcuts, and voice commands. If the tests go well, a user could ask Siri to find a photo, edit it, and send it to a contact; post a comment in a social app; or even log in to a service, without touching the screen.  Apple is already trying the capability with apps such as Uber, AllTrails, Threads, Temu, Amazon, YouTube, Facebook, and WhatsApp, the report says. Bloomberg previously reported Apple plans a broader Siri overhaul in spring 2026, and the current testing suggests parts of that update could arrive earlier, though timing remains uncertain.  The aim is to make Siri more useful day to day by letting it act on the user’s behalf across many apps while keeping actions scoped to what each app allows. For developers, the expanded App Intents would provide a clearer path to make key features voice-ready, so more tasks can be done hands-free. For users, it could reduce friction and speed up common actions, bringing Siri closer to the assistant Apple previewed but has yet to deliver.
