Pinterest Launches GenAI Tools to Transform Product Ad Imagery

At its Pinterest Presents advertiser event on Tuesday, Pinterest announced the exciting introduction of automation and generative AI for advertisements. This new feature will help advertisers enhance product pin ads, driving greater audience engagement and increasing click-through rates.

While this feature may boost sales, the idea isn’t entirely novel. Recently, Amazon used generative AI to improve the seller experience, allowing advertisers to describe image backgrounds for products. Google following the Gen AI trend also introduces tools to easily change background colors or scenes, making generative AI a standard in advertising.

Walgreens was one of the first to try Pinterest’s generative AI technology, using it across 50 products in various categories. Instead of just displaying products on plain backgrounds, the retailer showcased them in a more Pinterest-friendly style. 

This led to a 55% increase in clickthrough rates and a 13% drop in cost-per-click compared to using standard white backgrounds.

Pinterest also noted that automation and AI will help advertisers create more engaging product ad imagery, boosting sales while reducing input effort by 50%.

According to Pinterest, advertisers have seen a 64% drop in costs, a 30% increase in conversion rates, and a 1.8x return on ad spend, significantly improving overall performance.
