Meta Under Fire: Ray-Ban Users’ Data Used for AI Models Without Consent

Meta is facing backlash after its privacy policy revealed that Ray-Ban users are unknowingly sharing their data to train AI models. As concerns grow over user privacy, this situation is raising important questions about transparency in the tech industry.

Meta has confirmed that photos and videos captured with Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses may be used to train its AI models. This revelation has raised concerns among users, who may unknowingly be sharing images of their homes, loved ones, and personal documents.

Meta’s director of policy communications, Emil Vazquez,  revealed that in areas with multimodal AI, images and videos shared with Meta may be used to enhance its AI models, aligning with its privacy policy. This statement contradicts earlier claims from Meta that user data would only be used for AI training if photos and videos were explicitly submitted.

Moreover, Meta’s privacy policy states that interactions with its AI features can be used to train AI models. A spokesperson noted that while users can opt out of having their voice recordings used for training, these recordings will still be stored by default for future AI model training.

This practice has raised concerns about Meta’s privacy policy. Users might not realize they’re sharing numerous images, including sensitive information, for AI training. The question of whether this infringes on users’ privacy rights is up for debate.
