Recently, Snap partnered with Google Cloud to elevate generative AI experiences in Snapchat’s My AI chatbot. This advanced chatbot leverages Google’s Gemini AI multimodal capabilities, enabling it to understand a wide range of information, including text, audio, images, and videos. This collaboration promises to transform how users interact with the app!
With Gemini Snapchat’s My AI will get boosted and be capable of translating a photo of a street sign in a foreign country or asking the chatbot to select the healthiest option on a menu.
Snap’s previously launched ‘My AI’ in February, powered by OpenAI’s ChatGPT, now includes advanced features that leverage Google’s generative AI. Users can request images, videos, and text through this enhanced capability.”
Google reported that Snapchat’s ‘My AI’ has experienced 2.5 times more engagement in the United States following its collaboration with Gemini.
Snap CEO Evan Spiegel:
“This partnership with Google Cloud reinforces everything that’s so important to serving our community. Snap is all about empowering people to express themselves, live in the moment, learn about the world, and have fun together. Now with Gemini in My AI, Snapchatters can learn so much more about the world, do it really quickly in the moment, and easily share that with friends.”
Today’s announcement strengthens the partnership between Snap and Google Cloud, which has lasted over ten years. While it’s smart for Snapchat to add new AI features to keep up with competitors, there are worries about the risks My AI poses to users, especially children. Making the chatbot smarter could increase these risks too.
